an annual publication
you are here: mapping all my relations, is an annual journal published by the University of Arizona. Academics and artists submit work each year and are reviewed and accepted by the editors, Phd students within the program. I wanted to design the journal in a digestible way that maintains interest, but more importantly, showcases the work of the academics and artists. Through a simple grid system that allows for a strong hierarchy of text, image, or a combination of both, paired with an elegant, yet legable sans-serif typeface, this journal is not meant to showcase its design but allows space for the submissions to be the main focal point.
I’ve included the front and back cover, title page, acknowledgments, table of contents, and several pages from one submission, a (gentle) reminder, by Megan Samms (L’nu and Nlaka’pamux). I chose this piece and section because it showcases the relationship between text and image that is seen throughout the journal. Both the text and image have the ability to stand alone and be their own respective piece, but combined, they reinforce each other and create a strong structure to allow the information and the art of the piece to work in harmony.”
